About our Trainer and Instructor

Mary Sharp has 27 years experience as a riding instructor.  She has been training  horses for 25 years.  She also has 20 years experience as a horse show judge in local, 4H and circuit shows.

She has something to offer a rider that other instructors don’t.  Mary has 19 years experience as an elementary school teacher with a Masters Degree in Special Education.  She is able to tailor a lesson specifically to each riders needs, regardless of experience.  She is able to describe and explain things to riders in a clear and positive way.

Teaching Philosophy:

“ I do not give “McLessons.”  I teach horsemanship.  I insist on a horse-first mentality.  I will keep your ride safe, I will keep it fun and I will keep you progressing toward your goals.  My primary job is to translate how your horse is reacting (or not) according to your cues.”

Training Philosophy:

“ A happy, healthy, comfortable horse will do more-willingly- for the rider. I like to find the horses’ talents and shape their experiences.  A horse that is rushed into learning will not retain the skills and will become resentful.  Prepare to train with the horse-I will be teaching you at the same time.”

Mary has worked with a variety of breeds under a talented group of trainers.  She enjoys and is experienced with a variety of breeds and styles of riding.
